Pacific Park Presents 'New Year's Eve Countdown To 2023' On The Pacific Wheel

While Santa Monica is set to celebrate the New Year with a wide-variety of fun-filled events, it's important to note that there are no fireworks shows at the pier or Santa Monica State Beach and the Santa Monica Pier closes on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at 10 p.m.

Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier will once again countdown to the new year with a dazzling display of lights on the Pacific Wheel situated over Santa Monica State Beach. You can see the enormous, 90-foot-tall display from the beaches south of the Santa Monica Pier or online at https://www.pacpark.com/live.

The New Year's Eve West Coast countdown to 2023 on the Ferris wheel is live on December 31, beginning at 11:30 p.m., and will feature fun designs, colorful displays, and a 60-second countdown at 11:59 p.m. in huge 90-feet tall animated numbers.

The Ferris wheel lighting program uses a variety of colors and patterns from its 174,000 LED lights to present a numerical 60-second countdown, a "Happy New Year!" horizontal crawl, an oversized "2023," and display "Happy New Year" in more than 16 different languages following the countdown including Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, German, French, and Japanese.

The Santa Monica Pier boardwalk will be closed overnight, so guests interested in seeing the countdown in person can do so from Santa Monica State beach just south of the pier, from Palisades Park north of the Pier, or from one of Santa Monica's beachfront hotels. If celebrating from home, viewers can go to https://www.pacpark.com/live to see a livestream of the New Year's Eve presentation from the Pacific Wheel's live cam or Pacific Park's YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/pacpark.
