Damar Hamlin's Toy Drive GoFundMe Set To Hit A Million Dollars as NFL Fans Unite in generosity and prayer
During a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Hamlin collapsed on the field after delivering a hard tackle and was administered CPR before being rushed to the hospital.
Damar Hamlin is just 24 years of age. After a tackle near the end of the first quarter, he stood for a few seconds and then collapsed. He is in critical condition at a local hospital. Bills players knelt together in a circle, and then the game was called due to the incident.
His fans have rallied around his toy fund, The Chasing M's Foundation Community Toy Drive GoFundMe is above $5 million as of Tuesday Jan. 3 at 3 pm. The Gofundme website quotes Hamlin as follows:
"As I embark on my journey to the NFL, I will never forget where I come from and I am committed to using my platform to positively impact the community that raised me. I created The Chasing M's Foundation as a vehicle that will allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program is the 2020 Community Toy Drive."
"This campaign gives you the opportunity to contribute to our first initiative and positively impact children who have been hardest hit by the pandemic. 100% of the funds raised will go toward the purchase of toys for kids in need. The time to act is now, as we will be distributing toys on December 22nd from 3:30 to 5:30 PM from Kelly and Nina's Daycare Center at 800 Russellwood Ave., McKees Rocks, PA 15136. "
There was speculation on Twitter on whether Hamlin's collapse was due to the Covid vaccine, an undiagnosed heart condition, or some other problem.
