Deceased Man Identified; Jesse Rankin, 43, Was Found on the Embankment at Lincoln Blvd Exit to the 10 Freeway West

Lincoln Blvd exit to Santa Monica Freeway has been a homeless encampment for years, with occasional deaths there.

Update, 2.14.23: "The male was identified as, 42 year old, Jesse Rankin, of Los Angeles," writes Franco Pepi, Public Information Officer for the CHP.

"The cause of death is unknown at this time, the LA County Coroner has custody of the body, although they did indicate, preliminary, there is NO foul play suspected. We also do believe the male was homeless. Nothing further at this time," Pepi wrote.

2.12.23: A deceased person was found on the embankment Lincoln off-ramp from I-10 W. There is a large homeless encampment there, though it's unclear whether the deceased person resided there.

"Regarding the call this morning near the Lincoln off-ramp, we did locate a male between the Lincoln off-ramp and Olympic Blvd. West. Unfortunately, the individual was deceased upon our arrival. At this time the death is under investigation," said Walter R. Patton, Captain of the Training Division.

The incident and investigation are being handled by the California Highway Patrol. We have reached out to them for comment.
