A Hotel Guest Smoking in Bed Causes Fire That Damages Motel at 1102 Pico Blvd in Santa Monica Saturday

3.11.23: A structure fire damaged a motel on the corner of 11th and Pico Blvd in Santa Monica. The Santa Monica Fire Dept. extinguished the fire at the 1970's era motel fire at around 3 pm PST.

SMFD's PIO, Patrick Nulty, said that they began receiving multiple 911 calls about the fire at about 12:38 p.m. Saturday. "Police and Fire Department resources quickly responded and arrived to find a well-developed fire consuming one unit of the single-story motel. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze confining it to the unit of origin and preventing the spread to adjacent units."

"The fire was brought under control in 10 minutes after SMFD resources arrived. Firefighters were assisted by the Santa Monica Police, McCormick Ambulance, Santa Monica Building & Safety, and OEM 9-1-1 Communications. Fire Investigators were called to perform cause & origin determination, and the fire is still under investigation."

The motel, located at 1102 Pico Boulevard, is known as the "Holiday Motel & Suites." It is in Santa Monica's Pico Neighborhood

"SMFD has cleared a Structure Fire incident #23003666 1100 Block of PICO BLVD," tweeted the Santa Monica Fire Dept, at about 4 pm PST.

Heavy smoke from the blaze could reportedly be seen at a distance.
