There are fire fighters and vehicles from all over the Western US, fighting fires on the Westside now. Yes, California does inspect them first.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Our original story was based on a tweet that has since been deleted. The original tweet is below. We're unable to verify the original tweet, so we're taking it down. We were asked to take it down because "we can't have people like you posting misinformation during an emergency." This from a local official.
"Eastside Fire & Rescue: Update from our EF&R strike team leader - crews are going through an inspection in Davis, California.
#Palisades #Eaton #Kenneth #Hurst #Lidia #Fire #Ventura #LosAngeles #California They have been assigned to the Palisade Fire which is currently 6% contained. Safe travels to our team!" From @geotechwar. https://x.com/geotechwar/status/1877755128247132553
The original tweet from @parkercardwell, appears to the left. We can verify that there are fire fighters and vehicles from all over the Western US, fighting fires on the Westside now.
Yes, fire trucks coming to California are subject to inspections, including safety inspections by the Department of Transportation (DOT) to ensure compliance with state regulations. This is especially important for out-of-state vehicles entering the state to assist with emergencies like wildfires. Source: jjkellercompliancenetwork.com and forums.wildfireintel.org

SM Observer: The headline should be NO FIRETRUCKS WERE HELD UP FOR SMOG CERTIFICATES; PREVIOUS STORY AND HEADLINE WERE FALSE. Please explain why it is only in small type at the beginning of this story that you admit that the headline was untrue, and was based on an unverified twitter post by someone claiming they knew someone who knew someone who said blah blah...???. This is not NEWS, it is gossip and rumor mongering. Sheesh.

In Australia, NSW at least, you are legally allowed to drive an unregesterd vehicle used for fire fighting during a designated emergency, on the public roads for up to 100 km. It has to be roadworthy with brakes, lights etc. the ruling also covers appliances such as a fire trailer etc.

Any Comercial vehicle coming in to California has to be smog legal, I don't think all the vehicles California owns has to get smoged, they should of told them not come, so it was a waste of there time and money gas/diesel

KATU Oregon checked. No emission checks occurred, but all vehicles had their brakes etc. inspected via a quick disassembly. Whether it was a bottleneck or practical is unknown. https://katu.com/amp/news/local/fact-check-oregon-fire-engines-allowed-to-fight-wildfires-in-california

If this has any truth to it than it would appear the worm has turned and it might just be that justice is served. The idiocracy that runs this state is shown to be what it actually is and the people affected now may fractionally comprehend what they have allowed to fester in Sacramento. Lessons sometime have to be learned the hard way.

What trash reporting. At least you had enough integrity to correct it, even if you didn’t have enough integrity to do basic fact checking posting.

The statements made regarding fire trucks from Oregon were held up due to inspections from CalFire inspectors. I read this on Oregon.gov. They are supposedly on scene in L.A. now and have begun helping fight the fires.

California is so out of touch with reality that they risk continued damage just to fit a bureaucratic knee-jerk response to offers to help with their crisis. This is the height of stupidity and irresponsibility. The person or persons responsible should be fired immediately !!!

So who is Parker Caldwell? Are they a new account or someone who has already been posting for some time? How come no actual CO firefighters are tweeting about this? You'd think they would be the ones who were mad. Let's be real -- I could tweet about this right now on my old account (that I actually had for a client who is now out of business), be a 7-year-old account claiming to have a brother who is a CO firefighter. Etc.

Californians need to put sacramento through a full housecleaning when this is over. They talk about firing newsom but he is just a figurehead, the problem is much larger. This problem also extends into the UC system and into tribal politics.
