Santa Monica Police Officer Shot, Suspect Arrested in Palisades Park

SANTA MONICA, CA - A Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) officer was shot and wounded by a suspect in Parking Structure 7 at the Santa Monica Place shopping center in downtown Santa Monica around 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. The officer was transported to a local hospital, with his condition described as satisfactory. Late this afternoon, SMPD arrested the suspect, described as a Black male in his 30s wearing a dark-colored jacket and black pants, in Palisades Park. Authorities believe he is also the suspect who shot two juveniles in a Waymo driverless autocab early Monday morning, just after midnight on June 23.

The SMPD had released a photo and description of the suspect earlier, urging the public to call 9-1-1 if spotted and to avoid approaching him. The shooting took place in a busy area near the Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica Pier, and City Hall, leading to road closures at westbound Colorado Avenue and Broadway at 5th Street.

The still unnamed suspect was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon.

Social media reported a significant police presence, including helicopters and armed officers. Santa Monica Place was cleared, and the area is now secure following the suspect's arrest.

The SMPD continues to investigate the incidents and will provide further updates. The community is relieved by the suspect's capture but remains shaken by the violence in this popular coastal city. Authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact SMPD or call 9-1-1.
