Two Pedestrians Killed in Santa Monica Hit-and-Run at 14th and Wilshire Blvd; Driver Flees on Foot

The driver went onto the sidewalk prior to the collision, though the reason for the wrong-way driving remains under investigation

Santa Monica, CA - Two pedestrians were killed and two others injured in a hit-and-run collision on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica on Friday night, October 24, 2025, authorities said. The driver, who fled the scene on foot, remains at large as police continue their investigation.

The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Wilshire Boulevard, between 14th Street and Euclid Avenue, according to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD). Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle-a Dodge Charger-was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard when it veered onto the south sidewalk and struck four pedestrians.

The victims were located on the sidewalk near a Von's grocery store in a busy commercial district. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were transported to a local hospital with injuries and are expected to survive, SMPD spokesperson Lt. Saul Gilmour said in a statement.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office identified one of the deceased as 61-year-old Brad Lipshy, CEO of a Santa Monica-based event planning firm. The second victim, a woman in her 60s, has not yet been publicly named pending family notification.

SMPD's Major Accident Response Team is leading the felony hit-and-run investigation. Gilmour noted that the driver had been observed maneuvering onto the sidewalk prior to the collision, though the reason for the wrong-way driving remains under investigation. The suspect fled on foot immediately after the crash, and no arrests have been made.

Wilshire Boulevard was closed between 14th Street and Euclid Avenue for several hours Saturday morning as investigators processed the scene, including the vehicle, which came to a stop against a tree on the sidewalk.

"While nothing initially suggests the act was intentional, that possibility has not been ruled out," Gilmour said.

The Santa Monica Fire Department assisted at the scene, providing medical aid to the injured.
