Ice at Santa Monica Returns for One Last Skate Through Jan. 6

SANTA MONICA – The corner of 5th and Arizona is glowing again. For the 18th consecutive holiday season, Ice at Santa Monica, the 8,000-square-foot outdoor rink, opened November 1 and will remain open daily through Monday, January 6, 2025.

Located in the heart of Downtown Santa Monica just two blocks from the Third Street Promenade and four blocks from the ocean, the rink is once more operated by the Bayshore Ice Group (the same team behind the rinks in Pershing Square and Woodland Hills). The surface is real ice, kept frozen even when daytime temperatures climb into the 70s.

Sessions run every 90 minutes from 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. (11:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). Tickets are $22 and include skate rental; children 6 and under skate free with a paid adult. Reservations are recommended on weekends and during winter break, though walk-ups are usually accommodated when space allows.

Special events still on the calendar:

Couple skating at Ice at 5th and Arizona's annual ice skating rink. Open to the public all day and into the evening, until January 6

Ugly Sweater Skate Night – Dec. 19

New Year's Eve family skate with countdown at 9 p.m. – Dec. 31

Final day celebration – Jan. 6

After January 6, the rink will close, the ice will melt, and the corner will return to its usual role as a parking lot and weekly farmers-market site until next November. There are persistent rumors that the City intends to use the lot for a homeless shelter or low income housing.
