Mayor Caroline Torosis is Not Working for Santa Monica's Residents, But to Advance Her Own Interests

Letter to the Editor

Mayor Caroline Torosis does not represent Santa Monica residents, but her own interests. She only wants to focus on the city's "successes" while under her leadership the city has deteriorated.

Let's look at her record. Last fall she worked secretly with her employer, Los Angeles County, to bring seriously mentally ill patients from all over to two open door facilities on Ocean Avenue.

When asked why she did not inform the community, she claimed she didn't know about the Ocean Avenue project months before the public, which her own emails disprove.

In another sellout, without any public discussion, she positioned Santa Monica as a "sponsor" of AB1740 which would have allowed high-rise, high density buildings in our coastal zone while eliminating the oversight of the Coastal Commission. Faced with public outcry, she now says she is not for Miami Beach-style development.

While the city cannot meet basic obligations to current residents. (see the filth infested stretch of Wilshire Boulevard between 14 and 16 Streets, dying San Vincente trees, truncated library hours, homeless sprawled on sidewalks) she looks to set up payouts to descendants of former residents.

Her ambition is transparent. She wants to climb politically, catering to groups outside the city to build support. The welfare of Santa Monica does not count. Let's vote Torosis off the City Council. - Harriet Epstein, Santa Monica resident
