Man Fatally Shot Near Santa Monica Pier After Fight Between Hispanic Gangs

No suspect has been arrested in connection with the homicide.

Santa Monica, CA – Santa Monica police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Monday, July 20, 2026, in a parking lot adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier.

According to police, the shooting followed an altercation between two gangs. Officers responded to the scene where a man was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead.

No suspect has been arrested in connection with the homicide. A person taken into custody Tuesday following a separate high-speed chase stemming from a road rage investigation is not linked to the Pier shooting, authorities confirmed.

The victim’s identity has not been publicly released. No information has been disclosed regarding a possible gang motive or involvement of homeless individuals. The Santa Monica Police Department has not issued additional details beyond confirming the preliminary circumstances.

The incident took place in a high-traffic visitor area during a busy summer weekend that drew large crowds to the Pier and beach. Santa Monica Police data released earlier showed increased officer-initiated activity and arrests amid heightened community events and visitor presence this year.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Santa Monica Police Department. The Santa Monica Observer will update this story as official details become available.
