Did Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Actually Fart on the Floor of the US Senate?

A loud, fart-like sound is clearly audible on the C-SPAN broadcast during his speech, and Schumer suppresses a light chuckle right afterward before continuing.

It's being called "TootGate,". Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer appeared to break wind while discussing Iran in a speech to the US Senate, broadcast live on C-SPAN.

While the incident is under investigation, we do no two things about it:

1. Schumer has said nothing publicly about it.

His office has not responded to media requests for comment, and there is no statement, interview, or social media post from him addressing the viral clip as of July 16, 2026.

2. It's unconfirmed whether he actually farted.

A loud, fart-like sound is clearly audible on the C-SPAN broadcast during his speech, and Schumer suppresses a light chuckle right afterward before continuing. However, there is no definitive proof of the source (e.g., no official confirmation, and similar past incidents like Rep. Swalwell's in 2019 were later attributed to other noises like a mug on a desk). Many observers, including media outlets and online commentators, interpret it as a fart based on the audio and his reaction, but it remains speculative.

A couple comments from X.COM: "at least he finally passed something in the senate." and: "Sad. Schumer has become so irrelevant that he needs to fart on camera to get attention."
