  • Attorney Jonathan Stein Says Santa Monica Actually Lost the Fight to Close the Airport

    Jonathan Stein|Feb 7, 2017

The best legal recourse is a writ of mandate action in Los Angeles Superior Court. Resident organizations or residents from LA and Santa Monica should be plaintiffs. This is a 50-50 shot and time is short. A writ of mandate will void the City approval and end this 12-year nightmare. There are three primary reasons the City Council action was unlawful. First it violates the City Charter, specifically Measure LC for "local control" adopted by a 60% vote in 2014. This will be explained below....

  • City Could Evict Airport Tenants and Close Operations, In Spite of the Federal Government

    Jonathan Stein, Attorney|Dec 23, 2016

For the second time since Santa Monica Airport was set to close in July 2015, a brand new jet service is setting up new scheduled services. Jet flight operations are up 15% since July 2015, when all jet tenants agreed explicitly in writing to leave – the "surrender clauses" in their leases. 15 jets owned by a billionaire and others have paid no rent for one year and have not been asked to leave. The City Council and City staff are on the side of residents and have taken two actions that are "...

The City is pursuing a questionable strategy, but one that I support. It is setting up the City's own "fixed base operator" (FBO) to replace Atlantic and American Flyers. In...

  • Why Tuesday's Vote To Close SM Airport is a Huge Victory

Jonathan Stein, Law Office of Jonathan Stein|Aug 28, 2016

It is my great pleasure to forward City Council actions that we demanded for over 4 years!! The "FBO policy" which authorizes the eviction of Atlantic Aviation – which accounts for 90% of jet flight operations – is attached. This vote represents nearly 100% victory by Sunset Park Anti-Airport (SPAA), dedicated activists such as David Klass, Ben Wang, David Goddard and Alan Levenson, and outraged residents such as yourself. Here are the key points. First, we have fought to evict Atlantic Avi...

  • Airport Opponents Call for City Attorney Marsha Jones Moutrie to Resign

    Jonathan Stein|Mar 14, 2016

War of the Letters: Airport Group Calls for City Attorney to Resign From: Jonathan Stein Subject: City Attorney Marsha Moutrie resignation and Atlantic Aviation Lease Renewal for which she vehemently argues All, It has been an open secret at City Hall for several months that City Attorney Marsha Moutrie is being forced into resignation, in part because she epitomizes the preference for special interests shown by our City Council, and in part for her utter contempt for residents who might...
