Jet Set Rent Hotel Rooms in Santa Monica That Used to be Rent Controlled Apartments. Waiting Out Covid-19 in Style

What do you do if Covid-19 strands you in LA? Rent a luxury hotel room for $1000 a night.

What do you do if you're say, Saudi Royal Family and you get stuck in LA's Covid Lockdowns? You check into the Oceana Hotel is on Ocean Avenue just south of Montana Ave, and stay for a couple months. A repurposed apartment building, Oceana Hotel has rooms that start at $1000 a night, and go up to a modest $4000 a night. It is about half occupied longer term, with the very wealthy. Many of them unable to travel due to Coronavirus.

And now it is under new management. "LXR Hotels & Resorts, Hilton's collection of independent, luxury properties, today announced its U.S. debut with the addition of the recently redesigned Oceana hotel, an intimate 70-room coastal oasis situated along the coveted beach district of Santa Monica. The property is owned and operated by JRK Property Holdings, Inc." read a press release sent on 1/6/2020.

Covid has of course cut down on travel. Many wealthy foreigners have found themselves stranded in LA, with flights to the UK and parts of the Middle East hard to find. So Oceana is at least 50% occupied, mostly with people who have been there for weeks at a time.

In theory people have to move out of hotels every 30 days in LA County, to comply with local ordinances limiting hotel stays to a month. But in actual fact, one can always have a friend or boyfriend rent the room. Just saying.

So what do you get for $1000 a night? A very nice, remodeled apartment, access to a pool in the central courtyard. An ocean view from some units. And the property is just across the street from Palisades Park, one of the world's most picturesque urban parks.

I'm told when you're rich enough, you run out of things to spend your money on. While I wouldn't know personally, this is a celeb lifestyle in coronavirus times.
