In Maine, 18 confirmed Dead, 50 Injured After Active Shooter Robert Card Strikes Multiple Locations

Update 713 am PST 10.26: The massive search for 40-year-old Robert R. Card II of Bowdoin involves more than 350 police and continues into Thursday afternoon, after he was named the lone suspect in mass shootings in Lewiston that killed 18 people and injured 13 more.—Bangor Daily News

13 people have now been confirmed to be injured with 18 confirmed dead. Numbers are likely to rise as the suspect is still at large. The suspect, Robert Card, had been a National Guard gun instructor. This before he spent 2 weeks this summer in a mental institution for schizophrenia. For this reason, he was forbidden to own guns.

The Bangor Daily News is reporting that a Maine State Police spokesperson has identified a suspect in the Lewiston shooting as 39-year-old Robert Card of Bowdoin, ME. He is an Army veteran suffering from mental illness. He hears voices in his head.

Update 633 pm PST: per law enforcement source prelim info is 22 dead in Lewiston, ME shootings at 3 locations - Bowling alley, a bar, plus third location. Schemengees Bar and Restaurant and Sparetime Recreation Center.

FBI supporting and mobilized, Maine State Police taking lead investigative role. Possible suspect in custody.

ABC News update 611 pm PST: At least 10 people are dead and dozens more have been injured in a mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, according to law enforcement sources who have been briefed on the shooting.

Police identify active shooter in Lewiston, Maine. Suspect still at large. Public is instructed to call 911 if you see him, do not confront him directly as he is armed and dangerous.

Currently, numerous emergency personnel and other authorities are responding to an active shooter in Lewiston, Maine. Reports indicate that at least 16 people, possibly more, have been shot and injured. It is unclear if there are any fatalities. According to a dispatcher, description of subjects were 2 males of Middle Eastern descent in a white SUV.

From Maine State Police Facebook page, 5:07 pm PST: "ALERT: There is an active shooter situation in the city of Lewiston. Law enforcement is asking people to shelter in place. Please stay inside your home with the doors locked. Law enforcement is currently investigating at two locations right now. Again please stay off the streets and allow law enforcement to diffuse the situation. If you see any suspicious activity or individuals please call 911. Updates to follow."

The shooter has been firing at multiple locations, and an emergency alert has been issued, asking people to avoid the area and shelter in place as the suspect is still at large. This is a developing situation. Posted 5:32 pm PST.

Walmart spokesman says this incident did not occur on company property. "This shooting did not occur on Walmart property." -Joe Pennington, Walmart.

Lewiston is the second most populous city in the U.S. state of Maine and the most central city in Androscoggin County. The city lies halfway between Augusta, the state's capital, and Portland, the state's most populous city. Lewiston has a population of 37,000.
