Federal Workers Jumped and Beaten by Anti-ICE Mob in Downtown Los Angeles; 2 Hospitalized

Two federal detention officers were stalked and beaten by protesters outside a downtown Los Angeles jail Saturday night - and both ended up in the hospital.

The attack went down around 10 p.m. near the Metropolitan Detention Center on Alameda Street, where a crowd of 40 to 50 anti-ICE demonstrators had gathered, LAPD said.

The protesters followed the off-duty federal employees to their cars in a nearby parking structure on East Commercial Street. There, the group "suddenly and deliberately" jumped them, striking the workers multiple times, according to police.

In one account, at least five people piled into an elevator with the pair, grabbed one officer by his backpack and rained punches. The officer fought back, hitting several attackers and drawing his gun - but no shots were fired.

LAPD officers flooded the area after multiple 911 calls and arrested two suspects. Both federal employees were taken to a hospital with unknown conditions.

Detectives are investigating the assault as felony and misdemeanor battery. The Metropolitan Detention Center has been a frequent flashpoint for protests targeting ICE operations.
