Federal agents hit two high-end Downtown Los Angeles apartment complexes Tuesday morning in a dramatic early-hours operation that had choppers circling and residents wondering what the hell just happened.

FBI teams, some in full tactical gear, served search warrants at the Apex and Alina buildings near 9th and Figueroa - literally blocks from Crypto.com Arena - and a second site at 1010 Wilshire. An LAPD helicopter touched down on the Apex helipad as armed agents climbed out and headed downstairs. Firefighters were brought in to control the elevators while plainclothes agents worked the lobby and outside.

Building staff confirmed the warrants. An FBI spokeswoman later said the raids were part of an "ongoing investigation" and that LAPD assisted. That was the full official statement. No targets named. No charges announced. No explanation of what agents were looking for.

One person was reportedly taken into custody on the Apex rooftop. Identity still unknown.
