A special meeting was held Thursday night at Malibu City Hall, to address the community’s concerns about PCB contamination at Malibu High School. Recently, the faculty, students and their parents learned that soil samples from the school property showed PCB levels some 37 times the level required to trigger Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) involvement. Santa Monica decided last March to push forward the environmental goal of making the city zero waste. The issue went to the City Council last March and it was decided that the city would try to become 95% waste-free by 2013. Preliminary testing at Malibu High School has uncovered toxic chemicals at levels that exceed regulatory limits, according to a statement released Friday by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.
