About 1,000 customers without power in Santa Monica - Wed. Night

About 1,000 customers were without lights in Santa Monica on Wednesday night in the second power outage in the city in as many nights, officials said.

Southern California Edison said the cause of the outage was not immediately known and that crews were responding to the city. The blackout appeared to be tied to transformer problem in the 100 block of Fraser Avenue, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

On Tuesday, 5,800 people were without power for several hours after downed power lines were reported near 7th and Marine streets.

About 5,800 people were without power Tuesday night across a swath of Santa Monica, utility officials said.

The lights were out in an area bounded roughly by Pico Boulevard on the north, Marine Street on the south, Ocean Avenue on the west and 17th Street on the east, according to Southern California Edison.

The Santa Monica Police Department said that the outage appeared to be caused by downed power lines near 7th and Marine streets. -LA Times
