The Daily Santa Monica Crime and Drug Video - May 1, 2024

Santa Monica's City Council thinks the city is just fine. One councilmember called the homeless residents our neighbors, their wants and desires equivalent to those of people who pay rent and pay taxes. The 'freedom' of some, most of whom suffer from drug addiction and mental illness, to live in filth, disease and to commit crimes with impunity, is valued over the ability of the rest of society to live healthy lives in law and order.

The Santa Monica Coalition is a movement comprised of Santa Monica residents, business owners, and locals that addresses the humanitarian crisis, public safety concerns, the rising crime, and the current lack of responsiveness from the City of Santa Monica.

The most predictable businesses on SANTA MONICA's 3rd Street Promenade these days are palm reading, fortune telling, and push carts selling fruit and candy during the day, and drug peddling at night. The Promenade has lots of month-to-month tenants, a 40% vacancy rate and an anchor half-million square foot outdoor shopping mall whose owners are facing "imminent" default for the second time in two years. This is what occurs when the City takes over the rights of individual property owners and forms a City-controlled non-profit organization (DTSM) to run its marketing and security. Perhaps the only such retail area in Southern California that IS NOT run by a "Business Improvement District", comprised only of its property and business owners, who know best how to conduct their business. Residents...Watch for many new taxes and increases in existing taxes. The 3rd Street Promenade no longer generates enough tax revenue for SANTA MONICA's General Fund.
