In the last 9 Years, US Universities Accepted Gifts Totalling $19 Billion From Authoritarian Countries Including Qatar, China, Saudi Arabia.

Why then do we allow foreign governments to give money to set up Middle Eastern, Asian studies and other programs which can be designed to fit the desired narratives of the donors

According to the DOE, American universities and colleges have received $19 billion in foreign donations with no recorded dates of receipt as of April 6, 2023. Since 1981, American colleges and universities have disclosed $40.2 billion in foreign funding, with $1.1 billion in foreign payments in 2021 alone.

According to a report from the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI), over 200 American colleges and universities received $13 billion in previously undisclosed contributions from foreign regimes.

The report claims that a sizable portion of the funds were donated from authoritarian regimes around the globe, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, China, and the UAE.

The top five universities that benefitted from these donations include Carnegie Mellon, $1.4 billion, Cornell $1.2 billion, Harvard $894 million and MIT $859 million, and Texas A&M which received just over half a billion dollars.

The next five universities include Yale $495.8 million, Northwestern University $402 million, Johns Hopkins $401 million, Georgetown $379 million and the University of Chicago $364 million, as of the report dated 30 March 2020.

"Foreign governments are not allowed to own our radio and TV stations for fear they might be used for anti-American propaganda and influence," observed Bill Ackman on Twitter. "The Congress just banned TikTok for the same reason. Why then do we allow foreign governments to give money to our universities, funds that are used to set up Middle Eastern, Asian studies and other programs which can be designed to fit the desired narratives of the donors. ?

Our universities have a profound impact on our younger generation at a time when they are particularly vulnerable to being manipulated, that is, away from home for the first time, and young and naive.

Notably, these foreign governments concentrate their 'gifts' to our most elite institutions where they can influence our next generation of leaders - judges, politicians, members of the media and more.

Based on recent events on campus, this seems to have been a bad strategy for America. We need to rethink this.
