Hammer Hitter David Depape Found Guilty in Federal Court of Assault on Paul Pelosi, and Attempted Kidnapping of Nancy Pelosi

Depape, who said he wanted to kidnap and interrogate Pelosi while wearing a unicorn costume, faces life in prison or a mental institution.

In an expected verdict, David Depape was found guilty of attempting to murder Paul Pelosi, Nancy's Pelosi's husband, on October 30, 2022.

A federal jury in San Francisco unanimously found David DePape, the man accused of assaulting Paul Pelosi with a hammer, guilty of two federal charges: attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family of a federal official.

Depape wandered through left wing and right wing conspiracy theories online. Depape testified that he hiked from his home in Berkeley to the Pelosi home in an expensive part of San Francisco. He arrived at 1 a.m. and broke into the home through a window, finding Paul Pelosi alone in his bedroom.

After the two men spoke for an hour, Pelosi called 911 in front of Depape. When San Francisco police arrived, both men opened the door for officers. The SFPD actually witnessed Depape hit Pelosi, 81, over the head with a hammer, filming the assault as it unfolded.

The two men struggled over a hammer. Depape broke away from Pelosi, then struck the older man in the head with the hammer. Pelosi testified that he remembered lying in a pool of his own blood.

Depape faces life in prison. His attorneys have argued his insanity, as shown by the fact that he bought into various online conspiracy theories. Depape said his intent was to kidnap Nancy Pelosi, then speaker of the House of Representatives. He intended to question Nancy Pelosi over various conspiracy theories. “If Nancy told the truth (to me), I wouldn’t have hurt her. But if she lied, I would break her knees,” he told the jury. Paul Pelosi testified that Depape had told him the night of the assault that was his intent.

"The methed up male prostitute who attacked Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer is claiming in court he was inspired by GamerGate. He says he wanted to kidnap and interrogate Pelosi while wearing a unicorn costume because she is a feminist. Not a joke.” tweeted Josh.

Paul Pelosi made a fortune trading stocks at a major firm. Some people have accused Paul Pelosi of trading on inside information supplied by his wife. The Pelosi’s are worth in excess of $500 million.
