Update, 3/12/20: we received the following comment by email: "You should check your facts when you're writing an article otherwise you're a gossiper not a journalist. I am the sister of the deceased and they definently didn't know the motive. I have also spoken to the defended. He clearly stated that was not what happened at the scene as I referenced you're article. It is very disrespectful to write rumors or to spectate when you dont know the truth. My brother was asleep and...

I don't mean to panic anyone, but the truth is the truth. Hundreds of people are dead from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. The death toll could even be in the thousands. It's a question of simple mathematics. Abaco Island has a population of 17224, or did before the storm. Marsh Harbour, the largest settlement, had 5300 residents, says Wikipedia. In contrast, Grand Bahama Island has a population of 51,756, more than half of whom (26,000) reside in Freeport. Most of Freeport...

A catastrophic fire aboard the California dive boat Conception killing 34 may have been caused by Li-ion batteries or their charger says the boats designer, Roy Hauser. "This had to have been, in my estimation, one of those lithium battery chargers," Mr. Hauser told The Los Angeles Times and "there were electrical outlets in the bunk room" added Hauser. A dive instructor notes some boats no longer allow passengers to charge devices in bunk rooms due to the fire risk. The 34...

"In many ways #Dorian is an even worse hurricane today than yesterday. Forward motion 24 hours ago was 7 mph, now essentially zero. A stationary major hurricane over low-lying populations is the worst. Also it's a bit larger now and high waves extend much farther from center." Tweeted Dr. Rick Knabb, a hurricane expert at The Weather Channel on September 2nd at 2 pm EST. Meanwhile, 2 deaths of children have been reported from the Bahamas, a 6 year old boy and his 4 year old...

The Toxicology Report from Tyler Skaggs autopsy has been released. Sadly, everything I wrote in the days immediately following his death turn out to have been true. A number of other newspapers called the Santa Monica Observer "Fake News". But remember, you heard it here first. Now a few observations are in order: 1. Drug use is rampant at Santa Monica High School, and other Westside High Schools in Los Angeles County. I don't know when Tyler picked up his addiction or where,...

We're not really sure what it is about Santa Monica parking garages, but like the Golden Gate Bridge, they have become magnets for suicidal people recently. Maybe it's the fact that you can see the Pacific Ocean from the top floor, and watch the sunrise. And in a handful of cases, become overwhelmed by suicidal ideation. Police were called to investigate a dead body found behind Parking Structure 2 on Saturday morning. A woman discovered the body of a man and called police....
