    Kate Kuykendall, NPS|Updated May 6, 2019

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The mountain lion known as P-47 was recently found dead in the Santa Monica Mountains, and lab results indicate he may have succumbed to poisoning from anticoagulant rodenticide, commonly known as rat poison. Google's search ads and intent based advertising may fairly be described as the backbone of the internet. 2/3ds of all online advertising goes through Google.com or Facebook.com, an astounding figure. So when Adsense/Adwords by Google experiences a problem, the whole internet is affected. We noticed 2 problems. First, on our Gmail account there is the following warning: "You're out of storage space and will soon be unable to send or receive emails until you free up space or...

  • How Your Favorite Star Wars Character Has Been Altered By The Mandela Effect

Kat Thomas, Observer Staff Observer|Updated Apr 30, 2019

"Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them."--Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars is one of the most beloved of franchises. Fanboys (and Fangirls) still flock to watch and rewatch these movies forty plus years later. Yet, everytime a nerd (or at this point mainstreamer) rewatches this space saga, there's a pause as some of us are perplexed by how certain elements of the movie are recalled differently than how they appear in 2019 on the big, little, or little little (mobile...) screen....

  • Montana Rancher Shoots, Kills Rare Mexican Chupacabra, DNA Tests Confirm

Stan Greene, Observer Staff Writer|Updated Jun 23, 2018

A mysterious "canid animal" shot by a Montana rancher in May is believed by paranormal researchers to have been a chupacabra. It resembled a wolf - mostly - though some features were distinctly un-wolflike, which led to some pretty wild speculation about whether it was a dire wolf (they're long-extinct, so definitely not), a dog-wolf hybrid (dogs and wolves can interbreed) or perhaps a dog-human hybrid , The Washington Post previously reported. Tests conducted at the U.S. Fish...

These and other critical benefits are fast eroding as growing human needs strain the ocean's living systems as never before. From June 5-9, the United Nations will host its first-ever Ocean Conference in New York City, a global gathering focused on protecting ocean resources essential to human survival. The Monterey Bay...

Early science results from NASA's Juno mission to Jupiter portray the largest planet in our solar system as a complex, gigantic, turbulent world, with Earth-sized polar cyclones, plunging storm systems that travel deep into the heart of the gas giant, and a mammoth, lumpy magnetic field that may indicate it was generated closer to the planet's surface than previously thought. "We are excited to share these early discoveries, which help us better understand what makes Jupiter...

  • Shark Bite: What If Sharks Are Attacking Us, Because We're Finning Them?

    Ella Branch|Updated May 18, 2017

Cape Cod, Massachussetts. August, the twenty-first century. A ten-foot mako shark swings lightly in the breeze, suspended horizontally from a measuring gallows on the pier where a crowd of locals and vacationers stand around nodding approvingly. From a pierce in the left chest gushes deep-cherry blood; more blood rolls out of the mouth, the jaws thrust out of their socket, forever poised in a last attempt to bite whatever was trying to kill it. The snout designed to slice...

  • Saturn's Moon Iapetus Revealed As An Alien "Death Star" Starship: Cassini Spacecraft

Stan Greene, Observer Staff Writer|Updated May 18, 2017

Soundings from the high intensity ultrasound imager on the Cassini spacecraft prove that Iapetus, like another Saturnian moon Pan, is a holdover from the same ancient alien civilization. Iapetus is a moon of Saturn that resembles the infamous Death Star in the "Star Wars" films, with a large crater that resembles the fictional weapon's superlaser focus lens. There is a reason for this: It was built by an alien civilization years ago, parked in orbit around Saturn, and left...

  • Video: UFO Crosses Sky Over California Desert on Wednesday Afternoon, May 3, 2017

    Stan Greene, Observer Staff|Updated May 15, 2017

One thing is for sure: This one is no fake. Who could create such a bright light in the sky for 2 minutes? Seeing is believing, and this is the clearest UFO video we have seen in years. A UFO flying over head in the California Desert at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, has been posted to Youtube by a user calling himself Frank Zappa. The famous musician has been dead for ten years, so it seems unlikely that Zappa himself posted it. Though Zappa did name his daughter, the subject of...

  • Flamboyant Cuttlefish and the Eternal Mystery of the Pipefish at UCSD's Birch Aquarium

Sabine Ganezer, Observer Staff Writer|Updated Apr 21, 2017

If you haven't seen a flamboyant cuttlefish before, picture this: a plushy purple almond of about three inches long, abutted at one end with a set of ten lacy wire appendages, one or two of which seems to be bent perpetually up in what looks curiously like a hand giving you "the finger." Two of those appendages, the arms, beard languidly down from the chin and become a set of legs, manoeuvering in a left-right-left pattern along the sand, just the way a human would walk – exce...
